I dont know if you will be able to help, I am trying to look up 2 of my ancestors in the 1939 register, but have not been able to find them.

I have found the parents for both of them on the 1939 register, it may be that they were evacuated somewhere else because of the war.

They are Ronald Bedford Richards DOB 10 June 1934, Bridgend, Glamorgan. DOD 25 June 2010 Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

And; Trevor Richards, DOB 17 Sep 1936 Rugeley, Staffs, DOD 20 Jan 2008 Ashford, Middx.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Are there any closed records with the parents?

It might be that as their deaths were relatively recent that their records are still closed. This is being updated all the time.

would not be on the 1939 reg deaths too soon

Deborah Report 15 May 2019 16:27

Ok, thank you both, I thought it may be too soon, and yes there are closed records, but I think I can be fairly sure who the closed records relate to.

Thank you anyway, I will just keep checking every now and again.

Thank you again.

The last birth listed in Dec qr 1936 (Lichfield) on FreeBMD, Malyon.

You're assuming they were brothers, but Deborah didn't say that.

Deborah

Deborah Report 15 May 2019 16:45

Sorry, they were 1st cousins, not brothers. Their Fathers were brothers.

Correct birth's for both.

Thank you.

If you’ve a copy of their DC, you can ask for the records to be open.

The image is opened within a few days but not, unfortunately, the transcription.

Thank you for that information, thats good to know, I could get a copy of them.

Thank you "all" for your help, I learnt a few things today.

In view of the new records recently opened by find my past regarding the 1939 register. Would you kindly be able to check for me again (on the off chance that this is one of the newly opened records) my Uncle. Trevor Richards mentioned above. DOB 17th September 1936. The record I am looking for is 28 George Street, Maesteg, Wales. On the record I have via Ancestry number 28 crosses over 2 pages. and from what I can make out there are 5 closed records for this address.

Had a look on Findmypast and unfortunately he doesn't come up.

On the second page for 28 George Street is a Mildred Richards and 2 closed records. Although they are at the same address Mildred is number 1 of a separate household.

Sorry to come back on this but I have not been able to find the death record on Ancestry or FMP for my Uncle, Trevor Richards as above. He died January 2008 in Ashford Hospital. Middlesex. I am still trying to confirm it is him at 28 George Street, with my Grandmother. His DOB 17 Sep 1936.

I think I have just found the entry on GRO, Trevor Richards. REG Jan 2008. North Surrey 7571C. Entry 234.

Would you know why it would be on GRO and not Ancestry or FMP please.

greyghost Report 25 Jan 2021 12:05

Simply because FMP and Ancestry don't have the records post 2007.

The GRO site is relatively new and unlike freebmd, FMP/Ancestry holds further details on birth and death registrations.

You will see mmn from start of registration 1837 for births,
age at death from 1837 (other sites only give from mid-1860's onwards)
full second/third first names.

Another place to try for possibles deaths is -
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk

If a deceased persons estate went to probate, then it will be listed here. Older records will give addresses and names of executor, more recent ones only give names, date of death and grant of probate and the registry dealing with the estate. The registry isn't necessarily in the home town so means you can't be sure it's the right person.

You can obtain a copy of the will through the site.

Hi greyghost ,and thank you, I will have a look at probate search.

Its just that my Brothers Mum in law died in 2019, and Ronald Richards also in this post, died in 2010 and they are both on Ancestry. That's why I was puzzled.

greyghost Report 25 Jan 2021 12:26

I think they are picking up records via Probate sites, death announcements etc. - so not everyone listed as not all have probate or announcements. You'll see that the death records aren't laid out as before. FMP has the header United Kingdom Deaths 2007-2017

I have relatives died one day after another - one is recorded under UK deaths header on FMP - but no actual death shows. Neither was "announced", and only that one needed to go to probate and appears (with registry in a different County to where they lived and died)

Deborah

Deborah Report 25 Jan 2021 12:31

You may well be right, they did go to probate. Thank you for the information, it is helpful, at least I know now.

Thanks again.
