Thank You Abby. The marriage details are correct and match the copy marriage cert I have. Except I could not decipher the Church of the Marriage from the document I have. So thank you very much for that. Re the baptism record for James this could be him but on all the census information I have he is recorded as being born in Mastin Moor, Staveley, Derbyshire so I am not sure this is the James I am looking for. I will follow it up further. Many thanks for your help.
I am interested in how you were able to find this information so quickly where did you look for such detail? I can't seem to find anything this detailed on line.
Thank you again.

Thank you very much to everyone for the replies.
My great great grandfather is James Street(s) . He married in 1871 at a Parish Church in the Sheffield area but I can't read the name of the actual church as the writing isn't very clear. He married Maria Spouge, (often transcribed as Sponge on census information). They had one son John George who was my paternal great grandfather. Both witnesses to the marriage have the surname Dronfield which is the maiden name of Maria's mother. The marriage cert detaisl his father as George Street - Miner. James was a journyman blacksmith and I have found him on each census 1851,1861 as a single man moving around the area of North Derbyshire for work. The 1871 census details him as married to Maria. His age varies on the census forms hence my uncertainty as to his date of birth. I feel sure the age detailed on his marriage cert isn't correct! I wonder if he even really knew how old he was? I can't find him on the 1841 census but I wonder if at that time he had left home, possibly he was an apprentice blacksmith or working somewhere but I have no clues really as to where he was. I have found a George Street in Mastin Moor , Stavely, Derbyshire and this family might fit with James but James is not detailed on the 1841 census with them. Mastin Moor is his place of birth, this is the one constant fact on each census return. Parish records on line have not turned up any birth records for James in that area of the country. Would a visit to view the actual paper records yield more information, but which ones would I look at? I believe the records are now all located at the District Council Offices in Matlock, Derbyshire. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

Did the marriage cert give his age, and did it mention the father's occupation in addition to the name?

If you care to give us some details, I'm sure folk on here would like to take a look. Sometimes it just needs another pair of eyes.

If you know his place of birth from the census records, then try the parish registers for the county he was born in.

Civil registration came into force in July 1837. No BMD events were registered before that date. Penalties for not registering births were imposed from 1875

If you would like people to try to help, post his name, father’s name and occupation, and location

Who witnessed his marriage? Did it occur in the place he gives as his birthplace on censuses?

Which of his children is your PROVEN direct line?

I am researching my Great Great Grandfather born sometime between 1823 and 1829. I have found him, I believe, on census returns from 1851 to 1911 and I have a marriage certificate which gives me his fathers name. However, I can't find a registered birth or christening for him. He was born before registration of births became mandatory. Any ideas where I go from here? I can't properly identifyhis parents and family as I can't be certain about which family to look at on the census information for 1841, he doesn't appear to feature at all on the returns of likely families i.e with the name of his father as detailed on his marriage cert. He had most probably left home by 1841 to work for or to be apprenticed as a blacksmith. If anyone has any ideas as to how I can proceed with this search it would be much appreciated. I hope I have posted this in the correct place.
