Samuel Cresswell's death - update

I have the burial record for this chap but cannot find his death record anywhere. He was born in 1802 in Gloucestershire, married to Rosanna Davis in 1843 and was buried in Newnham, Gloucestershire, on February 12th 1865. Rosanna died in 1850. Can anyone please see if I'm missing something obvious?

The marriage record on FreeBMD has his surname as Criswell,
Edit: Although Rosanna's death is listed as Cresswell.

Yes, there are many variations of the spelling but I can't find him under any of them on any site.

I couldn't find his death on FreeBMD using all kinds of variations.

Thanks for looking, Margaret. I've searched Find My Past, Ancestry, FreeBMD and Family Search with no luck. I wanted to get the cert for my records but I think I'll have to do without this one.

You can still put an order in to GRO without knowing a Ref. No. Put down a dod 01/02/1865 and they will check that year and 1 year either side of that date. When I was looking at doing it for a birth, it said if nothing found your payment would be refunded.

You could ring the office 0300 123 1837 to see if that still applies and put an order in by phone if you then want to.

Yes,that's him. He married twice, once to Rosanna Davis and then to Caroline Juggins, nee White. The death in Shardlow is in the wrong area. It's Derbyshire/Nottingham way. I'll probably try what you said with the GRO. Thanks, everyone.

any one can die away from home

Dea

Dea Report 20 Aug 2019 16:51

Yes - I do think you need to contact the GRO and explain the problem.

Ancestry shows the image of the parish register entry which gives these people before and after him in first Quarter 1865 in Newnham, Westbury on Severn:

Elizabeth Hale buried Jan 20th - Reg 6a 167
George Spellecy (Spellicy?) buried Feb 2nd, - Reg 6a 168
Samuel Creswell buried Feb. 12th ............................................
Jane Walker - buried March 3rd. Reg. 6a 172

If this was transferred to the main register it should be somewhere between p168 and p.172 ?

It might help to give them these details and even to send them a copy of the parish register page.

I asked for a GRO search and they couldn't find Samuel's death entry either. I've explored the Derbyshire Cresswells because there was a death recorded there and they are nothing to do with my Samuel. He must have been the one that got away. Thank you all for trying.
