Wow, thanks! That is certainly the closest I've come to something that looks reasonable. I know one of her own daughters was named Florence, while all the other children had names from her husband's family.

Shauna, what are the full details from Margaret/Thomas marriage certificate, I assume you have it to get her fathers name. Who were the witnesses, could they provide any leads?

The names of the witnesses don't mean anything to me, perhaps they were friends? If they had newly arrived in Sunderland, they may not have known many people?

That's not very helpful, had hoped one could have been related to Margaret and may have helped in establishing if the family I posted for her was correct.

Bernard appears to have been born in Co Durham, and was also catholic - but I've no way of being sure of this.

Do you know Margaret's birthday ie date/month? I think you have her in your tree on ancestry with a death around 1958, where did she die? If we had her birthday it may be possible to locate her on the 1939 register if she remained in England, though who knows if that will help.

In case it's relevant. From SP, Margaret McDonald, father Thomas mother Maria Haynes, who married 17/4/1874. Margaret was born 9/7/1878 Glebe Will street Wilton. Registered on 15 July by her father.

Thanks for that. Yes, good idea to look for a death certificate or where she lived later on. I think she died somewhere in the south of England, possibly Surrey, as she moved down there with one of her daughters (?Florence) later in life.

She wasn’t listed as Florence p though on the 1939 record although it’s been annotated on it later

Ok. I just checked in with my father, who confirmed some extra information that I didn't have.

He thinks this is definitely the right family, because he knew that her mother's name was Maria, and that she had a sister called Florence. Also he confirmed that she did have family living somewhere in the Newcastle area, so the parents later moving from Scotland to Durham would seem to be true.

He believes she died in Weybridge, Surrey around 1960, instead of 1958.

That marriage between James Murray and Mary Ann Burt was the first marriage of my grandfather James, before he married my grandmother Dolly ~1941 or so (Mary Ann, called Molly, died of TB around about 1938). The little girl Alice who was with Margaret and family in 1939 was my aunt.

Going back to Census below, posted earlier, I wondered if that Einnes was Hynes!, looking at Baptism Record, Margaret, 1878 (Scotland Roman Catholic, FMP) Sponsors, Michael Sharky, Margaret Hynes. They have Birthdate as 9th July 1878 and Baptism 14th July 1878. Parents Thomas Macdonald and Maria Hynes.

I've gone back to my earlier post on the birth for Margaret - I didn't look at my notes properly and used the wrong dates. The birth registration confirms Chris's baptism giving dob.

That's very interesting that their border was in a domestic violence incident. I can' t believe how much information is available. I had had a few attempts to track Margaret but always thought it would be too difficult as its such a common name. On behalf of our family, thanks very much for all the help!

Don't know if this is correct though, ancestry often suggest other records which are not right.

That's interesting. So Ancestry thinks that Haynes could be Hynes which could be the same as Einnes which could the same as Innes.

Presumably some of this being mistakes in transcribing records, and some because the same name was sometimes spelt multiple ways?

I have some more questions!
I have the marriage record of Thomas McDonald and Maria Haynes, Margaret's parents. It has on it her parents names and also the two maiden names, but I am having difficulty reading the handwriting. Is there a way to attach pictures of the certificate???
