Thank you again everyone you have been so helpful. I have made contact with the National Library in New Zealand and we have found him travelling to Auckland and residing there as per the death record above
Keep well everyone :-)

Moses Tilston of Napier is included in this list of "contributors" to Napier Hospital in 1887:

This may (or may not) be the same NZ death:

Moses Tilston
in the New Zealand, Death Index, 1848-1966
Name: Moses Tilston
Death Date: Jan-Feb-Mar 1899
Registration Place: Napier, Auckland, New Zealand
Folio Number: 204

This probably relates:

Moses Tilston
in the New Zealand, Electoral Rolls, 1853-1981
Name: Moses Tilston
Gender: Male
Electoral Year: 1890
District: Napier
Region or Province: Hawke's Bay

He's a gardener.

Only heads of households seem to be listed, unfortunately.

The absence of an online record for travel doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. Take into account the dates of the available records

Tricky little devil this one ;-) :-D

EDIT: No, ignore this post - you're right, the Moses in the asylum isn't your man.

Looking at the Moses in the asylum in 1917 - bearing in mind the mental health problems suffered by other members of (presumably) the same family per your other thread:

https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1382420

He wasn't in West Ham. That 's a mistranscription on Ancestry.

The image says he was in "Whittm" asylum - presumably Whittingham, which was near Preston:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whittingham_Hospital

Not that it necessarily means anything. Kyffin Evans in your other thread was in several asylums in various places around the country.

It's a pity no age is given on the asylum record.

EDIT:
BUT, the only death for that name in 1917 is this man, who was born c1852 - so not your Moses, as you'd already worked out!

Deaths Sep 1917 (>99%)

I have Moses Tilston born 1829 Ellesmere in Shropshire not to be confused with his brother William Moses born 1827. Their Father was John Tilston born 1793 in Boughton, Flintshire and died about 1864. Their Mother was Elizabeth Gough 1793-1842.
Moses is last seen on 1871 census living with his Aunt.
I have already discounted a Moses in Wales (wife Esther) and one in West Ham Asylum who died 1917.
I have all the information on William Moses but cannot track down Moses at all.
