I was trying to avoid this, but a few years ago I had a thread on here about John Farrer and Bridget Salmon, and it all got very confusing. The outcome was that John and Bridget did not marry. Bridget died in 1855 and John probably did marry again but there's more than one option on who he married.

Back to Thomas. I have his birth certificate which states his parents are John Farrer and Bridget Farrer formerly Salmon. John Farrer was a butcher and they were living at 71 Peter Street, Liverpool.
His marriage certificate shows Thomas as a bachelor and working as a butcher, living at 80 Lovatt Street, with John as his father, also a butcher. Margaret is shown as a spinster and her address is 86 Lovatt Street, with father John Craig a brass founder.
The banns for the marriage show that Margaret's sister, Elizabeth, married at the same time - a double wedding.
The 1881 census shows Thomas and Margaret, with son John, living at 75 Aber Street. The surname is spelled Farrar and it shows them as Thos Farrar and Margt. Thomas is a cab driver.

As John's a bachelor at this marriage, either
a) Thomas in the 1861 and 1871 censuses was born to John and Louisa before they married (in which case he's not the Thomas you think he is), BUT I don't see the birth of a Thomas Farrer with mms Walter, or else
b) he's John's son by Bridget , and Bridget was no longer with John by 1861.

Also, either:
John's lying about being a bachelor, or
b) he wasn't married to Bridget, or
c) this is a different John.

Thomas and John were both butchers, which would match the censuses posted above.

Sorry, that marriage date should be 1874.

I'm trying to find Thomas Farrer in the 1871 census. He was born 26 Nov 1853 in Liverpool, to parents John Farrer and Bridget Salmon. He married Margaret Craig 11 October 1870. Thomas died 5 December 1892.

I can find him in the 1881 census.
