No, she's not Bessie's daughter, because her mother's maiden surname is Harrowell.

That's the surname of Frank Keel's wife.

It looks as if his wife (Annie Marie) had an extra-marital liaison with a Mr Williams, and was honest enough to register the birth as Williams.

In spite of that, Frank seems to have taken on parental responsibility.

Then either she and Frank were still together, to account for the later Keel children, or else she had those children with some other man/men but registered them as Keel, which she was entitled to do, as her surname was Keel.

The rest of what you list seems to be accurate.

Thanks all of you !! A lot of research going on - Thanks.

So, working backwards -

Ivy Keel is really Ivy Keel Williams b1896 in Hemel Hempstead, possible Dau. of Bessie, (Frank Keel's sister ?). Father unknown, but Frank Keel takes on parental duties and named as father/guardian of Ivy.

Frank Keel b1867, marries Annie Maria Harrowell, in Berkhamsted in 1889, and have several children 1890 - 1903. All born in Berkhamsted, Hendon, Watford & Hemel Hempstead.

Frank is son of James Keel & wife Elizabeth Knight, who married 1865, Amesbury, Wiltshire.

Possible death for Frank in 1902 in Amesbury??

James Keel is born c1843 Bulford, Wiltshire.

Thanks!

Hmmm - interesting that Frank's in prison in 1901 - though couldn't have been for long, judging by the children's births, and the school records.

1871 and 1881, he's with his parents.
1891 he's with his wife and Bessie May.
1901 he's in prison.
1911 no sign of him, but Annie Maria says she's married, not widowed.

However, I wonder if this could be his death, with the age 10 years out:

Deaths Sep 1902 (>99%)
KEEL Frank 25 Amesbury 5a 91

I don't see a corresponding birth.

EDIT:
Ah, but Ivy and Daisy are in school in 1903 with Frank named as parent/guardian.
But maybe he didn't have to appear in person for his name to be down as parent/guardian.

Ancestry suggests this death:

Deaths Dec 1943 (>99%)
Keel Frank 77 Winchester 2c 147

BUT NO - that's not him according to the Findagrave biography for that man.

Not helping with her birth but young Ivy certainly enjoyed writing articles and essays. Here are a few snippits to 'Uncle Tom' which seems to be a 'club' for younger readers.

So Ivy would seem to be either Frank's daughter from an extra-marital liaison, or Bessie's daughter, with Frank acting as guardian, which seems more likely.

Doesn't help find her birth, though!

Her marriage cert should be the first port of call, and hope it gives her father's name.

Frank is James and Elizabeth's son, as in 1881 census already posted.

Dorothy and Daisy are the children of his marriage in 1889:

This appears to be the family for these girls. No mention of Ivy though. EDIT She's already been posted visiting James and Elizabeth.

Her marriage cert should give her father's name if known, which might help.

James's first marriage:

By 1911 James Keel had remarried:

Presumably Ivy is some relation of James.

If she didn't know him, she may have invented one. In that case, he would probably be recorded as 'deceased'
