Hi
I have 3 members of my Murray family going to Australia 1854 The info was from Familysearch

It has John Baird Murray,b 1825, Alexander Gibb Murray b and Alexander Murray Allan went to Australia 1850
Alexander Gibb Murray b 1831 died 1858
Alexander Murray Allan Married had 7 children and died 1905

But Not sure about John Baird Murray I think he must be part of the family as the other 2 are but his birth only has John Murray as another one of his brothers seemed to have the Baird name added after
Baird was their mothers maiden name

I have a death for John Baird Murray 1866 Just wondering if any one can help in finding him and seeing if it gives any clues to his parents or where he was born I've already followed the wrong John as I didn't think he went to Australia
John was born West Lothian his parents were Alexander Murray and Ann Baird

Thank you

Maddie

When you say "part of the family" - do you mean a brother?

You said Alexander Gibb Murray. Did you mean Andrew Gibb Murray?

Andrew Gibb Murray wasn't a brother of John, unless Ann was also known as Agnes:

As John left in 1850, there's no other census to find him in as a mason.

Sorry
Andrew was John's brother
Alexander Murray Allan was his Nephew John's sister Jean married James F Allan

I think John could have been a miner in Australia

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 13 Jun 2020 16:34

This man (a miner) told a work colleague that he was 42 years old, and came from Stirlingshire, Scotland.
He requested that his effects, if any after his debts were paid, should be sent to his brother Alexander Murray, Barrington House, Edinburgh

Unfortunately, we don't know where people lived in between censuses, unless they are on online ERs.

There are several Alexander Murrays in Edinburgh in 1866, but none at Barrington House.

Possibly John Baird Murray's information was out of date - if he wasn't often in contact with his brother.

I can't find any mention of Barrington House on Google, or on the Edinburgh ERs.

Thank you I'll make a note on John so I know it not verified may be at a later date I might find some thing I was hoping his death certificate might give his parents but it sounds as though he was a loner so no one new anything about him I know Alexander Murray Allan his nephew who emigrated with him finished up in New Zealand so he possibly had no one over there

Thank you for your help
