That death record states he jumped overboard 30 miles E.S.E of Yarmouth. He had been drinking. He was the skipper of the Sapphire and his trade was fishing.

and also newspaper articles for this couple. I wonder if this is your man and perhaps his wife left him and returned to her mother? Pure conjecture, I know.

ASSAULTING A Wife.—Henry George Elmore, smacksman, was summoned for assaulting his wife Anna. Mr. A. F. Cowl was for the complainant, and Mr. Wiltshire for defendant. It transpired that the parties had been married for 5 years during which time defendant had hit her several times. On Monday evening her husband asked her to go for a walk and when near the hospital he threw her down and knocked her about. She went home to her mother's house. Rebecca Farman, landlady of the Fishermen's Arms, South Denes Rd, mother of the complainant corroborated. The defendant denied the assault. The bench inflicted a fine of 10s and costs for the assault and bound him over in two sureties of £5 each, and himself in £10, to keep the peace for 6 months.
