Find Ancestors

I am just beginning a family history for a friend and would be grateful if anyone can look up the following family in the 1921 census and 1939 Register.

The only information I have is as follows:

William G Woodcock married Alice Giles in the Aylsham District of Norfolk in the December Quarter of 1915.

I have now hit a brick wall in my research into the Woodcock family

William Woodcock's (see above) was Charles Woodcock who was baptised in Horsford Norfolk on the 5th December 1858. No father is listed in the parish birth register. His mother's name is given as Mary Anne Woodcock.

Charles appears in the 1881 and subsequent censuses but I can't find him or his mother in the 1861 or 1871 censuses so I won't be able to find his antecedents. Can anyone find them or suggest a way forward...

So this is William's father and you're trying to find HIS father...is that correct? Often, if the mother has the same surname, she is unmarried and so the father probably would not be around.

From Alviegal's posts, you can see that Charles Woodcock was born illegitimately , before his mother married Charles Punt.

As he was named Charles, Charles Punt may well have been his father - but there's no documentary proof.
The fact that he named Charles Punt as his father when he married isn't definite proof.

While he was living with Charles Punt, he is listed as Punt, but he clearly reverted to his birth surname at some point between 1871 and 1879 - possibly after his mother's death in 1875.

Mary Ann Punt died 26 Dec 1875 at Horsford. 'She leaves 9 children to mourn their loss.'
