No such person in West Cowick in any census.
The only Scott there was Charles Scott 1856, stepson of Thomas Glew, in the 1901 census.

Nobody called Scott was born, married or died in Goole reg district 1837- c1997

In the 1911 and 1921 censuses, High Street addresses in West Cowick don't have any house numbers.

Thanks ArgyllGran,

Bit of along shot, I know. Thanks anyway.

Do you think the 1939 register would be of help? I don't currently have access to anything at present....

The camera was made from 1938, so I it will be after that date.

Find out when the houses started having numbers. They don’t appear to in 1939

But as far as I can see, unless a house has a specific name like that, all addresses are just listed as "West Cowick, near Goole".

Mabel (nee Teal) and her husband Walter Crowther Scott are at 83 High Street in 1955 - presumably AKA Plaxton Villa.

Mabel and Walter only had two children, it seems - Nora 1916 and Jeffrey 1921.
None with a name beginning with M.

Does the label definitely say Mr, as you've said in the title of your thread?
Could it be Mrs ??

Couldn’t it have belonged to Mabel?

Nora married Wilfred Pocklington in 1940, and died in 1999 - buried in East Cowick.

They had two children, 1942 and 1945.

The camera could have been in Scott's possession at any time in the last 80+ years

The Electoral Rolls are held usually at the main public library for the district........................searchable by address.

SOME libraries will carry out searches - for a fee.

Thanks everyone, I think you have solved this for me!

The name and address on the inside of the camera case is mostly legible, but on looking closer I do think it says 'Mrs M. Scott'.

The writing is ambiguous at best, and I assumed, rightly or otherwise, that it said 'Mr' rather than 'Mrs'.

Knowing what you have all found, it must be Mabel Scott !

So, I guess it stayed in the family for a while eventually going to a charity shop where they sold it via eBay.

Thanks again for your help today.
