I'll be grateful for help with the later life of Alice Maud Mary White, previously Spraggett, nee Beasley, please.

The surname is Baseley or Bazeley in several older records for her parents and siblings, but after approx Alice's birth it settles as Beasley.

BASELEY, ALICE MAUD MARY mmn HARDIMAN
GRO Reference: 1874 S Quarter in SOUTHAM Volume 06D Page 632

In 1881 she's with her father John and siblings in Withybrook, Warks.

31/10/1890, she married William Spraggett in Long Itchington, Warks.
[ErikaH, I believe you have William's brother Charles distantly in your tree.]

1901: Alice & William, with their 3 children Vivian, Rose, and Willie, are in Church Lane, Long Itchington.

Round about 1906-7, Alice leaves William and the children, and moves in with Percy White.
In 1911 William says he's widowed.

In 1911, Alice (calling herself Kate , born in Warwick c1880 ???) is with Percy and their three children:

"Mollie" ???:

In 1917, Alice and Percy marry, after William Spraggett's death in 1915..

Percy may have died in 1932 - though his age and birthplace are uncertain:

WHITE, PERCY 51

However, I can't see Alice or the White girls after 1921.
Any brainwaves welcome!

Thanks.

ErikaH Report 29 Mar 2025 13:36

In 1939, Joan is with Aunt Nellie White at 3, Railway terrace, West Bromwich

Also there is Olive White, invalid, born 1911, who may well be REBECCA, as her possible death reg is for Olive R

Nellie married Alfred Perry in 1942

Oh, that's good, ErikaH - thanks for finding Nellie and Joan in 1939.

Don't know why it didn't occur to me to search 1939 by address.

Nellie Elizabeth Perry DoB 01.09.1907 died in Sandwell Staffs in 1995

Nothing ‘jumping out’ re Alice…………so far.

Not sure whether you’d want to get Percy’s death certificate to see who the informant was…….depends how ‘close’ she is to you, I guess.

ArgyllGran Report 29 Mar 2025 17:14

I'll think about it.
Alice isn't at all close to me.

William Spraggett's brother Charles was married to Louisa Butler, who was a sister of one of my Gr-grandfathers.

Looking for Alice isn’t made any easier by her giving such varying info about her birth year. Even when she married for the first time……..

ArgyllGran Report 29 Mar 2025 18:15

Percy's death cert :

1 August 1932, at West Bromwich and District General Hospital.
Address: 3 Railway Terrace, Spon Lane, West Bromwich.
Motor Lorry Driver.
Cause of death: Lobar pneumonia.

Informant: A M M White, widow of deceased, present at the death.
3 Railway Terrace.

No help, except that Alice was obviously still living in 1932, and still at Railway Terrace.

Something to work with…………but not this evening ;-) ;-)

Got Alice's birth cert too.

DOB 8 June 1874 - not that she stuck to that.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 30 Mar 2025 12:38

As Nellie etc were at 3, Railway Terrace in 1939, the conclusion would seem to be that Alice either died or re-married before the Register was compiled. Otherwise, one would expect her still to be living there

The 1936 death in W Brom for an Alice Maud born 1883 is a possibility, in view of the fluctuation in birth years on census records

ArgyllGran Report 30 Mar 2025 16:07

I had discounted that death, as the age was so wrong, but that is indeed her death.
Thanks for bringing it back to my attention.

4 July 1936 at 3 Railway Terrace.
Alice Maud White, widow of Percy White, Motor Driver (Works).
Age 53 [she was actually 62 ]
Secondary carcinoma of spine , and carcinoma of body of uterus. [Poor Alice!]
Informant: Nellie White, daughter, present at the death, 3 Railway Terrace.
