John Hicks was born in 1865 in St Just in Penwith, Cornwall and on the 1901 census he is single and living as border in Mountain Ash, Glamorganshire while working as a coal hewer. I cannot find John on the 1911 census and neither can I find his death and wondered if anyone else could?

John is one of at least 9 siblings born between 1851 and 1870. John’s eldest sister Elizabeth Jane Nicholas nee Hicks was born in St Just, Cornwall in 1851 and died in 1915 in Mountain Ash however some of her children were born in Millom, Cumberland and they remained there even after Elizabeth moved to Wales.

Can anyone find John Hicks after 1901?

Don’t forget that if he was on night shift he wouldn’t appear on the census.

Have you checked out possible marriages for him?

Thank you Abby. The 1911 census record looks promising particularly as the head of the household filled it in and he would just have gone with the information known to him which may not have been entirely accurate.
