I am researching an Ennis family from Ireland. I have found the follwing information on my ancestor Henry Ennis who was born circa 1840 at Co. Down:

Henry Ennis from Co. Down (a ploughman) aged 34, wife Sarah 29, children Margaret 4, Edward 3 and Elizabeth 1 arrived in Otago, New Zealand on 27 Oct 1876 on board "Auckland'. They left Clyde on 31 July 1875.

The only other information I have been able to find is a registration for the birth of his daughter Margaret -

Margaret Scott Ennis born 13 Sept 1870 of Donaghadee. Father - Henry Ennis and mother Sarah McDowell.

Is Ennis a very popular name in Ireland? I think I will have to purchase some certificates so I can take this name back further.

I am also researching the name Carlile from Belfast, Ireland.
