I have always understood that there were 3 'fils de' (Fitz) Gerald, the first known as Fitzgerald, the second FitzGerald and the youngest Fitz-Gerald. Was Gerald 'Gerald of Wales'? Or, someone once told me of the family Gheraldini from Florence, or Norman french a sidekick of William The Conqueror? Take your pick!!!
