WILLIAM HANDEL JONES - my grandfather married Maria Whittington in Middlesbrough on a Christmas Day at the end of the 19th. century. They had eleven children, Annie, David, Edith, Arthur, Joseph, George, Harriet (known as Dolly), Lavinia (Harriet's twin who died in infancy), Alfred, Herbert and Marion. Only my father Herbert (age 91) and his youngest sister Marion survive. We have had limited success on researching Maria's family but having searched for over 10yrs. have been unable to find any trace of William's ancestors. My mother told me when I was a child that she thought his family originated from the Merthyr area of Wales but very litttle was known about him. He worked (I think) in the iron mines in the Cleveland Hills. If anyone can help in our research please contact me. Thanks - Cecilia Hunter (Jones)
