Hi Catherine
I have just seen your message on Genes Reunited and wanted to let you know that I have found the root of our Canter family name. It was Kantorovitz and it looks as though the family came fto Englad from Lithuania originally and Minsk in Russia, when there was an influx of Jews to England. They settled in the East End of London by the time of the 1901 census. So in our case the Canter name is definitely Jewish. Best wishes Vicky Evans (nee Canter)
