WILLIAM GRIFFITHS, formerly of Churchstoke This obituary from 1972 was recently discovered in with my family notes, and would be of interest to some of my GRIFFITHS relations: The funeral of Mr. Will Griffiths, formerly of the Brynkin and later of Fir House, Churchstoke, took place at Churchstoke on December 12. Aged 96, Mr Grifiths had lived for the last 25 years at Bugby with his daughter, Mrs. Lucy Jones. He was a native of Churchstoke, being born at Rose Cottage, and was employed at Brompton Hall and The View before taking up farming at The Brynkin. Before retiring to Fir House, he was a postman. He served in both the Boer War and World War I and joined the Auxiliary Fire Service in World War II. He was a member of the Curchstoke Players, coach and chairman of the football club, originator of the minstrel Troupe and a churchwarden. He was also a former chairman of Forden Rural District Council. Chief mourners were: Mrs. Lucy Jones, daughter; Messrs. Ronnie, Haldane and Roy Jones, grandsons; Mrs. Smith, grand-daughter; Mrs. Vera France, daughter also rep her husband; Mr. and Mrs. L. Bolderston, Mr. G. Bolderston, Mrs. Hannam, Mr. B. Bolderston, Mr. E. Blayney, Mr. J. Griffiths, Mr. and Mrs Middleton, and Mr. and Mrs. Allders. William was one of 10 children, all born in the same house in Churchstoke, Montgomeryshire. (Stephen Richard, George, Elizabeth, Sarah Ann, Mary, Eva, Lucy, William, Walter, Arthur) His father was Stephen Richard Griffiths, b. 1834, married to Annie Jones, b. 1839. Stephen's father was also named Stephen Richard Griffiths, married to Elizabeth. If any of these names are of interest to you, please contact me. I have just read the obituary you posted on genes reunited. I realise that My father William Mark Griffiths is of no relation.
But the coinsidence of two William Griffiths
both passing away in December (although this william was much younger late 60 early 70) prompted me to write this note. I have had no luck finding my fathers father, apparently he came back from the first world war, but by this time the family had believed him dead and no mention of him was made again. I wish you well tracing your relative, and with a name like Willam Grffiths I am sure he was a fine man. Good Luck.
