Joyce, I was born in the area of Middlesex. And lived in the area of Hounslow, not very far from Brentford, and there were a couple of orphanages in the area of Isleworth, and Hounslow.
One of these were run by the Sisters of Charity, (Roman Catholic) I think. Contact the local Diocese, Westminster I think. they are on the web too.
The reason I know this is because a freind of mine was homed at the Roman Catholic orphanage, which may have been in Chiswick/ Brentford/ Hounslow area, I cannot remember now, but the local Council of Hounslow should have all orphanages listed for that time.
The connection with Brentford re your mother could be that she may be that she was taken to the local West Middlesex hospital for treatment, or possibly through a relative.

The South East Water Board may be able to assist you further, as most water transport had to be licensed to be using the waterways of the UK. I am unsure where you would get the licensing office address from, but again, i would suggest that you first contact the local Council offices

They are at-
the Council Offices,
London Borough of Hounslow,
The Treaty Centre
Lampton Road
Hounslow .
I'm sorry but the postcode I cannot remember,
Also, the Registrar for Births and Deaths is in a building on the same road - Lampton Road in Hounslow.

I hope that this helps!

Keep looking and you will find the information that you seek!

Kind regards,

Margaret

I am looking for my mothers family. Her parents were canal barge people. They died in their twenties, and a granny looked after them until she died. They were then put in separate orphanages, and lost touch with each other. My mothers name was Annie and born in 1902/5. She had a sister Rose, and a brother whose name I do not know. There seems to be a connection with Brentford, Middx with my mum. I do not know about the others. I think they came from Ireland. I hope someone can help. Joyce C
