All i know is that in the late 1500's the family name used to be Buccanan and we originated from Scotland. Then at some time, some of the family moved to Ireland and the name changed to Gailey. My father once told me that the name Gailey was given to a knight a long time ago, and he chose the name by looking at a flower called a, 'Ley' (not sure on the spelling on that), and thought it looked, 'Gay' (old english for pretty or happy). Now i'm not too sure if he was just pulling my leg with the origin of the name; but our family name was definately Buccanan back in the 1500's. If you have any other information, then please feel free to contact me.
