My great-grandfather, Alexander Lauder Taylor, came to Australia as a young man, in the latter part of the 19th century. Here he met and married Anita (poss. Anneatta) Wharton of Balmain, Sydney. They had 4 children - Oswald, Cuthbert, Elvy and my grandfather, Eldred Wharton Taylor (c1904 - 1953). It is believed that Alexander came to London, from his home in Scotland, where he stayed with a relative (Sir Harry Lauder's brother/uncle??) until he could leave on a ship to Australia. Can anyone help me trace his origin please?
