My great grandmother's married name was Elso. When researching a family tree when I was about 10, I was told that the name was originally Kelso. It was changed by either her husband's father or grandfather. My great grandmother was born in Melbourne Australia in c.1908 and married in the 1920's so I am guessing the name change occurred maybe 1880's.
