Robert Report 12 Jan 2007 16:33

I am trying to trace my Grandfather's details = Robert Charles Montgomery. He was born 1893 in Limavady County Londonderry Northern Ireland but was brought over to Liverpool as a boy with his younger brother Sam sometime before the first world war. Their father was also called Robert and was known as Big Bob. Big Bob set up a successful painting and decorating business early in the century. Any news of him would be extremely welcome as I dont even know when the family moved from Limavady to Liverpool. My Grandfather, Robert Charles and his brother Sam returned to Derry at the start of WW1 to enlist in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and had consecutive army serial numbers = 19124 and 19125. Sadly, Sam was killed on 1st July 1916 on the first day of the battle of the Somme. His body was never found and he is copmmemorated on the War Memorial at Thiepval. My Grandfather survived the war with a Military Medal and Bar and came home to Liverpool and married Elizabeth Hoggen He had two sons, Robert and Alec and four daughters Mary Elizabeth (my mother) Elsie, Lilly and Rita. Also, my Grandmother's sister married Bill Treble of Broad Lane Norris Green Liverpool, her younger brother William married a lady called Nellie they also lived at a diiferent house on Broad Lane. The hoggen family lived at 24 McLeod Street Everton in the municipal Borough of Breckfield according to the 1901 cencus. My Grandmother's father was James Hoggen, Mother was Mary Hoggen. The Hoggen family lived around the Breck Road area as late as the nineteen fifties. - I had an Uncle Rich Hoggen Aunt Gladys and three cousins, Richie, Alex and Jimmy. If you have any knowledge of any of the above people, I would be delighted.
