I am trying to trace the Hewitt family who were originally from Flintshire, North Wales. Joseph, born in c1820, his wife Mary, born c1822 and their family moved north to County Durham and according to the 1861 Census were living in Monk Heselden. Their son, William, born 1841, was a farm servant and in 1861 married Ellen Barron (Baron) in the parish church. I have no other information on William. In 1867 Ellen gave birth to a daughter, Mary Jane, and registered the baby under her maiden name of Barron. After that I have no further information on Ellen. According to the 1971 Census, the Hewitt family were living at Caroline Street, Hetton-le-Hole. They also lived at Easington Lane and Sherburn Hill. The 1881 Census records Mary Jane Hewitt and her brother, John, born in 1865, as being with their grandparents, John and Ann Barron at 3 Redburn Row, Colliery Row on the evening of the Census. In 1887 Mary Jane gave birth to my grandfather, John Lee Hewitt. The certificate has the father as William Hewitt and the mother as Mary Jane Hewitt formerly Barron. I do know that my grandfather had Hewitt aunts, uncles and cousins living at Haswell but that is the only information I have. Any information on the above would be greatly appreciated.
