I am currently searching for information regarding a half cousin. He is a great mystery because it is not known where he was born but it was possibly about 1884 in Scotland. Family legend claims that Sydney Morrison joined the Army in 1914. [there is no definite indication as to which army regiment, but it was probably the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders or the Yeomanry.] He went to fight in WW1. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and won the Military Medal in 1817. He was apparently severely wounded and it took a year for him to recover. He was then sent to Sierra Leone, West Africa, as an interpreter. This was because of his knowledge of African languages gleaned during 3 years in Africa before the war. There is a belief that Sydney has a son DOUGLAS NICOL MORRISON, who was born after 1921 and died after 1939, having fought in WW2.
