Hello Bernard,
Don't know if you're still a member of this site but I'm quite new and have only just come across your post. Thomas (of HMS Captain) and Mary Ann Butcher were my great great grandparents and although I do not know a lot about them I do have some information. If you get in touch I will open my tree to you and pass on any information I have.

THOMAS BUTCHER. 1826 to 1870 Trying to find the above, who was in the Royal Navy. According to RN records he was born in Newington, or possibly St George`s Parish, Southwark, in 1826. He died in 1870 - went down with most of the crew when HMS Captain sank. According to naval records of 1870 his wife was Mary A. Butcher. Any help would be appreciated.
