Trying to find connections with James Mainland 1912 - 2001 - had a brother John - I believe he was born in the Orkney Islands. he eventually married Ivy (Dobson) I believe his family tried to trace him in the 80's.

Dear Christine,
Not sure if this is still an active question, but I met a James Mainland - or "Jimmy Mainland" around 1970. He was, at that time, the lighthouse keeper of the Ardnamurchan lighthouse in West Scotland. As our family are "Mainlands" it was a source of interest, but it seemed his line were from the Orkneys, and mine from Shetlands. Maybe you could trace him via lighthouse records if relevant.
