I'm looking for Carliers in the (British Raj) Madras presidency of India in the mid-19th century. I have an ancestor named Annie (or Anna) Maria Carlier, married to Sam Brown who was a soldier with the Royal Artillery in Madras. I can't find either of them in records so far. She was my great-great-grandmother. The only record I have of her is as mother of the bride on a marriage record for her daughter Anne Brown to Thomas Cowan, 17th Brigade, Royal Artillery, Madras, dated 1864. The marriage took place at St Mary's Church, Madras. The bride was only 14 years old. Carlier seems to have been one of the names in Madras at the time, presumably European, but possibly what we now call Anglo-Indian. Thomas Cowan was Scottish and Sam Brown, his father-in-law, may also have been. Any Carliers out there with links to India and specifically to the Madras Presidency of the 1800s? Thanks in advance.
