SOME SOUTH AFRICAN OWENS...Am trying to trace my greatgrandfather who was one of 6 children, 3 of which came over to S. Africa in 1920/21.They were Harry Owens who was in Durban and became a magistrate there, Ronald Owens who lived in Cape Town and had 2 daughters. Alice Owens who married a buisnessman from Joburg, named Ted (Edward) Jones. There was also a Rossi Owens, not sure of who he was son of, who began as a ships first officer and ended up as Chief of Police in Johannesburg. The family originally came from Staplehurst in Kent, U.k.Those that remain there were Llewellyn, who worked for Simplex in Tynsley and married Sissy Turrell and had 2 boys, Maurice & Bernard, Mable who married a farmer in Shipley Bridge< YOrkshire and had 2 children, Tony & Majorie, and Eliza who married Jack who was a haulier also in Yorkshire, they had 1 daughter, Pat. |
