Trying to find Holmes

I am trying to locate any information about my paternal grandfather - James Holmes. I understand he was a Cooper by trade. I have a potential family located from the English census but cannot identify if the father or son (both named James) would be related to me. Both James' and the grandfather, Thomas, were Coopers by trade. The James Holmes I am looking for lived common-law with an Alice McEvoy on Great Homer Street, Liverpool between 1919 and 1927. Together they had two children, Ruth (b 1920) and Thomas (b 1925). I believe James was a widower who also had at least 3 daughters to the first marriage; Kitty, Chris & Annie. Annie came to live with him and Alice McEvoy after the death of her mother. It is understood that Annie may have eventually emigrated to Australia. Alice McEvoy had 5 children at the time James came to live with her; Alice, Mary, Ellen, Jack and Nancy. Around 1925 James Holmes disappeared. A family of Coopers named Holmes in Gt. Homer St. lost their business at that time. It is rumoured one of the sons sold the business and ran off with the money. This could be my grandfather. Any information would be appreciated. |
