Hi David,
I have Letchers on my family tree. Nancy Ham Letcher b. Stickler St. Ewe Cornwall in 1809 married John Collins in 1830.
She was the daughter of Thos. Letcher & Betsey Ham. Thomas was the son of Thos Letcher b. 1781 at Landrock & Elisabeth Coad.

My Surname originates (in England) from Cornwall, St Agnes and Truro. It has been suggested that the name originates from France and the "Le" was orignally of French origin. The earliest records appear in the 1600's (ish) -cheers David Letcher
