MMM where do I start..... Ok well I definatly know you have the correct Richard Walsh on the 1901 census as that was the one I had already found his wife was Elizabeth Mary (surname unknown) & yes he was a sargent with the military fost police. He died August 1941 & is buried within the Parish of Calstock). I know how the tree progresses down from him as one of his daughters Emily Bridget was my great grandmother etc. However I'm stuck in going backwards as before he came to Devonport I've been led to believe he was living in Ireland, possibly stationed in Dublin but we've always been led to believe his family (parents) were from Waterford......This is where I'm getting a little stuck as the census doesn't cover Ireland.

well - dont think I can find anything else. Emily´s birth certificate would give parents name, including mothers maiden name. If maiden name is Wadge - then the marriage certificate of Elizabeth and Richard would give both fathers names

Richard Walsh on 1891 census listed as single so - if marriage to Elizabeth Mary Wadge is correct possibly not the right one.

Clare, Was looking for the birth of one of the children as the certificate would give mother´s maiden name. Birth for Emily seems a better bet as year is closest to the info on 1901 census

Hi there I'm trying to find out the birth of my great great grandfather Richard Walsh & to find out more about the family he came from. So far I know that in 1901 census he was living in Devonport with his wife Elizabeth Mary & many children (I have information on these except for his wives maiden name) & worked as a Sargent with the military fost police however their is no previous record of him. I believe he originally came from Waterford in Ireland & was for some time stationed in Dublin with the military police. I can find no record of whether his family (his parents & siblings) came here during the potato famine although my family were brought up thinking they did. Any help or if someone could point me in the right direction for my research would be gratefully recieved.
