Does anyone have any suggestions as to why I can't seem to find this family? I have the Moss family on the 1871 census in Liverpool, and a death cert from 17th July 1881 gives their address- yet I can't find any sign of any member of the family anywhere in Liverpool on the 1881 census (I've tried familysearch and ancestry)! Any ideas anyone? 1871- 27 Back Summers Gardens, Kirkdale Thomas Moss, Head, 34, Porter, b. L'pool Mary Ann Moss, Wife, 29, b. L'pool Elizabeth Moss, Dau, 7, b. L'pool Sarah Moss, Dau, 5, b. L'pool Charles Moss, Son, 3, b. L'pool William Moss, Son, 1, b. L'pool 17th July 1881- death Mary Ann Moss from TB, place of death, 42 Cherry Lane, Walton, West Derby. Informant was widower Thomas Moss, Labourer, of 42 Cherry Lane, Walton, West Derby. Help! Many thanks, Alison |

Is Walton the same as Walton on the Hill? 42 Cherry Lane has a family of Gordons there in 1881. Crista |

I think they must have been mistranscribed as I can't find any of them either. Can't think what Moss could be mistranscribed as though. Kath. x |

Hi Crista, Yes- the death certificate reads 'Walton' but I'm pretty sure its the same as 'Walton-on-the-hill'. Considering Mary Ann died in the July I wouldn't have expected them to be moving house until perhaps after the death... I'm wondering whether she was in some kind of hospice/hospital before her death and the family were off visiting- but I don't know where to look! Thanks for ruling out 42 Cherry Lane anyway, Alison |

Hi Kath, Thanks for looking anyway... the 1871 image looks a bit odd as the first 'S' in Moss has a flourish which makes it look a bit like an f... so perhaps I need to get creative and think of some strange variations!! Thanks Alison |

Hi Louise, The only thing I know is that Mary's maiden name was Page, and father was Thomas Page, Shipwright. I have been unable to find her birth cert to date. Thanks Alison |

my thinking is when mary died the children could have gonr to live with the grandparent and if it marys parents they are with they could be using the name page |

Louise, Thanks for your suggestion. I'll concentrate on finding her birth cert and both parents names- and then look for them on teh 1881 too! Thanks Alison |
