my great x2 grandmother mary jane trevaskis was born in 1836 in penzance cornwall all i have is her fathers name as john mother unknown at this stage, mary married a thomas henry terrell here in australia but no parents were recorded on the cert. i have 2 different years for mary 1836 and 1838 on her marriage details she was 18 in 1854 when she got married which makes her born in 1836 unless she was really 16 when she got married and she lied about her age which would have made her born in 1838. so this is where im stuck, i would like to find her real year of birth and her parents. i have this info from the Bigraphical Index of South Australians any help or advice on this would be appreciated thanking you debra xxxx

How have you got two different years for her birth when the only source of information you appear to have is her marriage certificate? As well as the 5 year old Mary, there are two three-year-olds on the 1841 census; neither has a father called John.

steve its a great possibillity its her , if that is her her father was henry trevaskis not john its obvious theres no mary jane born in 1836 then so it must be an error in the records here in australia what do you think? debra xx

thanks rambo, they could be relatives though i will keep the info incase they are. thank you for your help twinkle i have the year of 1854 on her marriage details which makes her be born in 1836 as she was 18 then. it only appears the only mary jane is born 1838 in penzance if this is correct she lied about her age as she would have been 16 when she got married in 1854 with birth year 1838. debra xxxx

There were no birth certificates in 1836 and, although Cornwall is particularly well covered in terms of parish register transcriptions, it is possible her baptism has not been transcribed. Perhaps you could contact the OPC for Penzance. Alternatively, there are 3 baptisms of that name between 1835 and 1837 on familyhistoryonline.net, but there's no guarantee these are from Penzance without spending a whole 18p to look at them.

How did you get that Twinkle,its coming up with nothing on familyhistoryonline have some spare credits on there so i,ll look it up if i can.put in Mary Jane Travaskis 1836 cornwall baptisms and all but no results
