Find Ancestors

Can anyone help me on the marriage of henry john hall to lillian (maiden name not known) henry was born in Gloucester 1870c and lillian in london 1868c. On the 1901 census they had 3 children Alice Lillian born 1892 Winifred Edith b 1894 and Walter 6months old at that time. I would be so grateful for any help at all please.

You'll not find a marriage on a Census ... are you saying this is where you found the family ? ! You need to be looking on FreeBMD to start with ...its not 100% complete ... but getting there ! Then if you have access, check out the Ancestry data for Births, Marriages and Deaths ... pretty much the same as FreeBMD. Failing them two, check out 1837online, it has all the Birth, Marriages and Deaths that have been recorded. I'm just checking FreeBMD and Ancestry for you ... bear with me Elaine :-) Where was Alice born ?

Hi Maisie, I had a quick look on freebmd. There are lots of Henry Hall's!! If I was you, I would get a birth cert for one of the children, then at least you would find Lillian's maiden name. If she has a more unusual surname, you should be able to find the marriage easily. Then you can get the marriage cert which will then gives their parents names etc Good Luck!

Hi again, FreeBMD is showing no Henry John Hall marrying Lillian .... there are quite a few H J Halls marrying but none to Lillian/Lilian. There was one to an Alice ...? just wondering where Alice may have got her name from. TOO many Hanry Hall marriages on Ancestry to look through them for a Lillian. You will get Mum's correct full name when you purchase one of the Childrens birth certificates. Problem with Census entries was that some folks liked to change there names ! Are any of these Birth entries yours ? Births Mar 1892 Hall Alice Lilian Maldon 4a 543 Births Sep 1892 Hall Alice Lilian Cheltenham 6a 395 The birth district would give an indication to where a marriage MAY have taken place. Elaine :-) Yes, the birth certs give Fathers Name & occupation and Mothers full name PLUS maiden name as well.

Elaine..... Alice Lillian was born in Cheltenham and it possibly could have been in June. Information given to me by very elderly relative who is very very forgetful bless her....

Then I would send for the Alice Lilian's birth cert ... the reference is hopefully the one above that I have given you. It will be easier for us to check 1837 online once we have both names. Births Sep 1892 Hall Alice Lilian Cheltenham 6a 395 September is the Quarter in which the entry was made in the indexes ... NOT necessarily when she was born. If Alice was born at the end of June, then her parents may not have registered her until July .. which takes her into the September Qtr. Elaine :-)

Elaine... Here's what I got on 1901 census... alice lillian aged 8 gloucester.. winifred edith aged 6 cardiff... walter henry aged 6months cardiff... harry j hall aged 31 chepstow.... lily hall aged 32 london.... I am so grateful

Hi Maisie, Just to add fuel to the fire ... both Harry & Lily are names in their own right. Upon further investigation, there are a few Harry/Lilian marriages and ... one Harry/Lily marriage ... but none are in Gloucester or Cardiff ... but who knows where they got married ... having children in both Gloucestershire and Wales means that they were capable of moving around alot ! ...what was Harry's occupation ? Here are the Harry Hall marriages I found ... they may NOT have married before Alice was born !
