Alice If you look at the post from John Ferguson that is running at the moment you will see that he has two census missing and this is not uncommon. You will now have to start looking on FreeBMD and/or 1837 to see if you can track down the marriages of the girls. Victor

Thank you very much Victor, it does look like him. Asyou sy, the girls were probably married by then. I just wonder how a whole family can disappear in 1881.... alice

I have a feeling James may have worked at Woolwich Artillery for a while as the address on the marriage certificate of 1856 was Artillery Place Woolwich. This is from 1871 census: Charlotte Cox 15 Greenwich, Kent, England Daughter Greenwich London Elizabeth Cox 44 Greenwich, Kent, England Head Greenwich London Emily Cox 4 Greenwich Daughter Greenwich London James Cox 12 Greenwich, Kent, England Son Greenwich London Mary A Cox 10 Greenwich Daughter Greenwich London The father James Cox is missing here. He was born 1835 in Thetford Norfolk. His occupation was Blacksmith. His wife is listed as married Any help greatfully received. They are driving me craaaaaaazy! Alice

I cannot find any of these on a census after 1871. Mary ann is my G grandmother and I have her on the 1891 and 1901. I have the family on the 1861 and they do change places where they were born. greenwich/Woolich/sydenham/Lewisham area seem to be where they lived. Can anyone help solve the mystery of where they disappeared to please? .
