Please can anyone help me find Emma Wilkins in the 1861 Manchester census, probably in Ardwick. I’m afraid this woman has more names than a phone book but the most likely are … She was born Emma Jones Wilkins in 1858, mother Mary Wilkins, father unknown. Birth registered in Chorlton. In 1862, Mary Wilkins marries John Willert and is living at 18 Nether St, Ardwick. In 1871 Emma is going by the name Emma Willett and is living in St Saviours, Chorlton upon Medlock with Eliza Topham. She is called Emma Wilkins Willert on her marriage cert (1875). It seems most likely that she would still be Emma Wilkins in 1861 and hopefully living with her mother in Ardwick but who knows! Not me at the moment. Cheers, Louise |

I know that it's a bit pushy to nudge your own thread but I was hoping that someone on the late shift might be able to help. I have spent ages waiting for today's breakthrough (finding the birth ref) and now that I have got this far, I am very impatient to go the next step. I promise not to make this a habit. Louise |

I've checked the 1861 Name Index for Lancs .... sorry :-( Doesn't sound as if you have her birth cert, if I'm wrong ... whats the address she was born at in 1859. I'm out tomorrow ... but if I get chance on Monday, I'll have a look through Ardwick ... but I can't promise being able to ... son on sch hols so may not spend as much time on PC. If you do have address for 59, let me have it on here ... I'll do an address lookup for you tonight before 11pm. Elaine :-) |

Thanks Elaine. I'm afraid I only found the birth ref today on 1837online after weeks of looking for the wrong name! So, no address for 59 yet although hopefully I will get this next month. If you can find something easily (eg. at the mothers adsress at the time of her wedding) great but otherwise don't put yourself out. If there's nothing obvious I'll get the birth cert and go from there. L |

I'll have a quick look at 18 Nether St for you. If I can't find at that address, I'll check the addy on the Birth Cert for you when you get it ...approx 2 - 3 wks delivery from GRO (online) Back shortley Elaine :-) |

I've double checked cos the numbering is really odd ... 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 5, 3 Nether St, Ardwick. 2x5 & 2x3 ...definately no number 18 or 8. No Willetts, No Wilkins and no Jones to be seen. Sorry. If I get chance on Monday, I'll have a wider, longer search ... see if they are in Ardwick at all. Elaine :-) |

Thanks Elaine, I'm not surprised that it's not obvious - nothing about this woman is! I really appreciate your help and hope you have a nice Easter Day. Louise |
