I've just seen someone in the Lincs 1851 census at Branston: Whon't tell his Name 23 Farm Servant, Lincs Scamblesby (That's the enumerator's spelling!)

Perhaps his parents named him 'Won't tell his' as a joke! Anyway, I bet it was either William, Thomas or John! nell

Gave his age but not his name? How odd. Must be one of mine, I have a few from Scamblesby. Just goes to show how strictly the law compelling people to provide information was enforced!

There's a whole chunk in the 1851 Lancs (I think it's that one!) where they've just used people's initials. Its not a workhouse or a hospital, just bog standard streets. Keep praying none of mine turn up in that area! Lou
