I cannot find him in Norfolk so I am hoping the family all moved to Greenwich area where James married in 1856. His fathers name was George and he was a Bootmaker. I am guessing he may have been a Norfolk man as this is where James was born. When he was married in 1856, James lived at Artillery Place Woolwich. He married an Elizabeth Carson and I have marriage certificate. I have them on the 1861 census living in Perry Street Bromley. By 1871 James is not with Elizabeth and she is head but still married. Thanks to anyone who may be able to help. Alice |

Mad Alice Was he in the Army. Artillery place sounds quite millitary to me . Ps .... My Cox's are from Warwick. Or at least they lived there but I don't know if they were born there. |

Hello Gemma He was a blacksmith and his dad was a bootmaker. I have looked on thetford parish registers - no sign of him. They moved around a bit - no signof him or dad by 1841- looked at all entries for Thetford lon the 1841 last week. If yours are easier to trace than mine perhaps we could pretend we are related. lol! Ok.....but does that mean I have to send you xmas cards etc ??? Ps....You may not know this..... a blacksmith was a highly decorated job in the Artillery...so I could be correct. And I know this because I just asked my hubby and he is in the artillery....and he know's everything (almost). Ps ....If you go to the grave yard I will give you the winning lottery numbers for this week....then you can employ a private researcher if you win. Little miss cheeky |

Hi Gemma I thought he may work on the ships in the dockyard - but if him indoors knows everything - who am I to argue. Ask him where James Cox got to after 1861 - just realised we are chatting on two threads! If you want me to go and count the lichens on a grave in Hainford - I will. May be easier to look up the death first though! Ps Sometimes churches have record of meeting in the register - always thought they were a bit boring but not if rellie was the vicar! Alice |

Posted the details on the other thingy about the grave. Hubby says that he most probably would have been attached to the Royal Horse Artillery. so check any websites for horse artillery and his name. It may explain why he was not on the census with his wife. Failing that just lets make out we are related.....as i'm getting bored of not finding living people!! |

OK But I'm not good at Christmas cards either! Your hubby has got me wondering - maybe he is right - does that mean he would have actually signed up? trouble is i can't find him anywhere on the 1871,81, 92 etc... So might he have been away? Out of the country? Alice |
