Got this information from National Archives. Hope it helps. What records are available? Ships' passenger lists exist only for the period 1878 - 1960. There are no passenger lists for air travel. No passenger lists exist for those immigrating from Russia and Eastern Europe. However, if the subject of your search was Jewish, there are some alternative sources of information It is unlikely that you will find records covering those immigrating from the Mediterranean unless the ship called at a United Kingdom port en route from elsewhere in the world. When did they travel? 1878-1890 1890-1960 From 1960 onwards no passenger lists have been kept. Naturalisation: The National Archives The Catalogue The National Archives hold Home Office correspondence to Naturalisations by Act of Parliament, and by application to Secretary of State, together with duplicate certificates of Naturalisation, for the period 1801-1987. The backgound papers, known as memorials or case files, can be searched on the Catalogue by name of applicant. If you search by both forename and surname remember to separate the words by AND, eg Hans AND Schmidt. You can find the papers in the series: HO 1 (1844-1871) HO 45 (1872 - 1878) HO 144 (1879-1934) HO 405 (1934-1948) You can find corresponding duplicate certificates in the series C 54 (1844-1870) and HO 334 (1870-1987). You will need the certificate number to access these. Certificate numbers up to 1934 are available via the Catalogue if you search for an applicant by their name. Between 1934 and 1987, certificate numbers can be found from the printed name indexes held at The National Archives (not available online). Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, files dated from 1923 closed for 100 years can be requested for review via the Catalogue.
