I have been on freebmd and got the following details for my grandfather. Name: Collins, Edward Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1901 District: Prescot County: Lancashire Volume: 8b Page: 718 Question is can I get a birthdate from this information or is a certificate the only way to find out? Thanks Terry

Sorry Terence, you will need to order the cert for that.

Hi Terry, If your grandfather died in 1984 or after and you know where he was living at the time, you can look up the death on 1837online and it gives the date of birth. I did a quick look but there are so many Edward Collins registered in the few years after 1984 that you really need a district. If you have this information and no credits, I will look it up for you. Thanks for the offer Kathleen but he died in 1955. The info you supplied is interesting though and is now another string to my bow. Now if only I had some arrows :) Thanks again Terry
