1861 are available for a lot of the counties, 1851 are a little thinner on the ground .... but 1841 seem to be quite readily available for most counties, but they aren't in good condition. If you need pre 1871, best thing is to ask ... state county you require and the years you need in the title with the rest of the details you have in your thread. Anyone who has the County & Year you need will answer your thread then .... or someone else will tell you its not available yet. The earlier census's can be got from: Stepping Stones, Archive CD's S & N Genealogy TWR Computing ... there may be others ... just do a search for '1851 Cheshire Census' or what ever your interested in, and you will be given numerous sites to choose from. Always ask for a lookup first here though ... the census's range from £30 - £55 ...quite expensive if you are looking for one family only ! Good Luck Elaine :-) |

1837online site has the 1861 for Middlesex, Essex, Surrey and Kent. Otherwise people buy the cds themselves and some kind souls offer look ups. |

When it comes to 1841 census, the ages are rounded up to the nearest 5 ... for usually everyone over 16 ... definately 20, as I've had 18 & 19 yr olds registered before now. Elaine :-) |

It is very common for ages to be incorrect in the census collections. In most cases people did not know their correct age, and in some cases were not sure of where they were born. |

Can anyone shed some light on why there would be incorrect ages on a census, is there a valid reason for a couple to lie about their age? I'm just about to search for the birth details to confirm this has happened but would be grateful for any info Denise |
