HUGH TOOLEY c1828. Birthplace on census varies between Liverpool and Whitehaven Cumberland! Marries in 1851 in Liverpool. Got him in 1871 and 1881 in Stockport, Cheshire. Can't find him in 1891. Dies in 1899. Been going round in circles with this one and getting no-where. Someone PLEASE tell me what the next logical step is cos I can't see it! Thanks Lou

Hi Carrie Well I can't for the life of me find him in 1891 if you fancy looking. 1871 and 1881 they're at 67 Charles Street, Hyde, Cheshire 1871 and 1881, one says Liverpool, one Whitehaven...goodness knows what census 3 might say. And I've checked IGI for possible baptisms for both Liverpool and Whitehaven and zip! Lou

God I'm really crap tonight, aren't I...blame the drugs! Wife is ELLEN, born 1832 Liverpool, sometimes uses her middle name of Rebecca as her first name. She didn't die till 1900 so would hope they are together Youngest child is Francis (male) born 1871 Hyde. Can't account for him. Got all the other kids covered Lou

Thank you everyone. My only conclusion (other than the martian theory) is that they've been given the surname of the previous household by mistake Lou

Thanks Chris That's my Ellen Rebecca. Haven't even started on her side yet cos that's a trip to Liverpool and there's lots and lots and lots of churches to choose from, I think! Lou

Thanks Chris I might take you up on that! My son lives half with us and half with his dad on the Wirral and he keeps saying he'd love to go and do some look ups for me. NOT totally sure that I'd be too trusting of his results though, not when he phones me and says 'So how are the dead people, Mum?', Don't think he QUITE gets the seriousness of this hobby! Lou
