Hi again Rosemary, home from work now. I found my William Cartwright c 1875 on familysearch.org he is aged 6 and with his parents William and Margery and his brothers Charles and Samuel he is at Main St,Skerton (Lancaster) but he was not born in Lancaster - I made boob (again!) he was born in Manchester. |

Just found your last thread Rosemary (because I am having a sneaky look at work) will let you know more of the William who I found on the 1881 when I get home tonight! |

Rosemary, thank you for your help. The William you have for 1881 is not mine. But Isabella born 1900 is a very possible. I think I have her at 6mths old on the 1901 Preston census. However on that it says that she was born in Lancaster - this could perhaps be an error, so I will follow this lead up. Also maybe Williams wife Ellen was married in Preston and not Lancaster, so I will also look at the Ellen who you have mentioned. You have given me other directions to go in and you have my gratitude. |

I have been trawling through all manner of BMD'S (inc 1837 online) looking for a marriage entry for a William Cartwright born 1875 in Lancaster. all I know of his wife is that her name was Ellen (surname unknown) and she too was born in Lancaster. I have this couple and their children on the 1901 census in Preston. They could only just have arrived in Preston as their 6mths old child was born in Lancaster. I expect the marriage to have been in Lancaster or Skerton prior to 1896 which is prob when their 1st child was born. I have searched 1837 online for the years from 1894 when William would have been 19 until the end of 1896 - fruitlessly! I am also looking for a 2nd marriage for a later William Cartwright born 1918 Lancaster. I have his first marriage to a Sheila Mcguiness in Lancaster 1940. But this marriage was annulled soon after. I have no details of his 2nd marriage other than Lancaster again!Any help would be wonderful. ThanX |
