You said she was born in Barcombe so I looked up there for you, sadly, with no success. Do you now have firm evidence that she was born in Lewes? (The Lewes registration district covers many villages). There are hundreds of pages for Lewes. I don't think anyone would be prepared to search through on the offchance. You probably need to get to the Lewes Record Office! |

As she's not on the IGI you have a bit of a problem. Hopefully your contact will have found a baptism for her at Barcombe, and siblings. The fact that she was registered at Lewes could mean she was born in one of dozens of villages in that area. As she stated Barcombe in the 1871 census that is your most likely birthplace. Hopefully the 1861 Sussex will appear indexed on line soon, and then it will be easy (well, maybe!) to find her and her family. |
