I am looking for this family: George Povey b.1853 London. Selina Povey b.1860 Islington London Nellie Povey b.1889 Montreal, Canada. I imagine that they must have been living in Montreal. I would be very grateful for any help. Sam.

It's not as simple as it is in England. None of the census are available as a retail product. Also with the exception of the 1871 Census, there is no names index. You pretty well have to know the RG number in order to access it from the National Archives which is in Ottawa. If you have a specific address, if you write to Statistics Canada they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Hello Iris, Thankyou for your reply. I only found out about this Canadian branch a couple of days ago. I am willing to clutch at any straws at the moment. If it's not too much trouble I would be very interested in the details of this family, Iris. Thankyou Sam.

Iris, Thankyou so much for these details. It looks as though John Povey might be a brother to my George. I am off now to look at the website, Thanks once again, Sam.
