She was the eldest child, so none born before the census.

Hi - the baby in St Marys is a definate - the image was inspected and the surname is Matthews, and pob Kensington. Parents - given Jersey is nice and unique to search with pob .... I'm stumped that there are no Marys, no Janes, no Mary Janes in the greater London area between 18 and 30 years old that fit..... Do you know her maiden name and actual place of birth on Jersey please ? Turning to Charles - any other christian name ?? Do you know his parents names and whereabouts in 1891 ?

I know most things about them apart from the 1891 census. Charles Matthews married Mary Jane Burton 1/8/1887 in Paddington (she gave age as 18 at that time) in 1881 census Mary Jane was aged 9 born Jersey. Until recently I never knew she was born there, as that is the only census reference I have ever found for her. (her father was a soldier stationed at portsea where her next 2 siblings were born, before moving to London) by 1901 Charles had died in an accident & she had married(?) to aman surnamed Rixon (I cant find this as I have only heard this was his surname and spelling possibilities are endless) Her daughters were in a school for delinquents (have found that entry) And Mary Jane was either with mr Rixon with their 2 daughters Bessie & Lily~or had moved onto Rixons brother and had 3 more sons with him William,Thomas & Jack I would love to find Mary Jane in 1891 0r 1901 census's

Laird~Just had a read through and realised I missed someone out that could help for 1891. Sorry for the confusion Florence's sister FRANCES JANE MATTHEWS born 11/6/1888. At Wharf road Paddington (Which is the home of Charles Matthews parents.) Florence (hospital one) was born 223 Walmer Road Kensington in 1889. Would looking for Frances help locate the mother in 1891?

Now I AM confused - does this mean the family I showed 4 posts earlier is NOT correct for Charles ? IE Father William, born Banbury, Oxon ? cos theres no 3 year old Frances with them .... UPDATE 22Mar2005: Ah, I seee - sorry, brain-dead.

Just to reiterate: Looking for on 1891 census (Mary) Jane Mathews b 1872 Jersey & her husband Charles b1868 Paddington with daughter Frances Jane Matthews b1888 Paddington Think Kathleen Elizabeth b1891 was in hospital ALso looking for Mary Jane in 1901

Ho hum. Searched for Frances Jane, using just christian names, first FRA*, then JAN*.... in pobs KEN* and PAD*, age 1 to 5, in London, in whole country...... nowt. Its pretty weird not to be able to find 3 people when you know their pobs and ages, no matter how bad the transcription .... Here's a suggestion. We know where Florence is in St Marys Hospital. She is on Page 7 of 12. Would it not be 'normal' for a parent with another young child to stay too ? Dont know if they would have had the facilities ..... maybe you should search pages 1-6 and 8-12 to see if they are listed there but totally mistranscribed ?

Thanks Laird~Don't know whether non patients were very welcome in hopitals back then. If I remember rightly there was A frances Jane boarding in the area when I was searching last year when I had my years Ancestry subscription.
