Sorry to be so long getting back to you, missed your note on the board. Pillifant can and has been spelt in many different ways:- Pillifant (the present or more recent spelling) , Pillifent, Pellifant, Pellifent, Pilifant, Pilifent, Pilliphant, Pillivant (though on the whole this family in more recent years seems to have stuck to the same spelling) Pillivent, Pellifent, Pellifant, even Pillibant. Also somewhere along the line the Sillifants have also got mixed up with the Pillifants. In trying to find Pillifants on the 1901, I managed to find a Sillifant for someone else. Basically any spelling with or without double l, with (i), (e), (a) interchanged. Just to re-cap William Pillifant was born 1837 Somerton, Devon; though I do not know where Somerton is. Someone said it is not far from Topsham where he was living in 1881 with his wife Jessie Eliza and family. There is a Sowton there, not far from Exeter. Someone suggested that a Richard Pillifant born 1814 Lifton, Devon could be his father, but I have yet to prove this. Richard Pillifant did marry a Mary Ann born 1821 Topsham, Devon, so it is quite feasible. if you could find this for me, I would be more than grateful. Thanks, Paul C
