I was told my my mother that Lena's mothers name was Sarah, (i didnt include this as alot of information i was provided has been slightly incorrect) My mum also told me that Lena's maiden name was Radcliffe, however on finding her children's births and her marriage, this states that infact her maiden name was Ratcliff, i guess it is possible that the E has been missed off in earlier years.

As she was over 30 when she married Fred...........could she have been married before?

I'm guessing you don't have the marriage cert...............or you would know her father's name.

I have now received Lena Ratcliff and Frederick James Harrington's marriage certificate!

This confirms that Lena's father was George Ratcliff, a Clerk and that Frederick's father was also Frederick James Harrington, a contractor!!

It states that at the time of marriage (Feb 1923) Lena was 30yrs, and Frederick was 25yrs.

The witnesses to the marriage are a J/T/F Harrington and Ethel Harrington (after Ethel it says something else but cant read it!)

In view of the above the parents on the 1901 census for Lena dont match nor for Frederick!!
I am at a loss end with this set of relations, could anyone please help?

That certainly does look a good possibility, apart from they are in Middlesex but i guess they move around etc.
Does the 1901 census you had give an occupation for Frederick (senior) at all?

I wonder if you could give me some advice.
Lena and Frederick had a son who died as a young child (he was found in a pond!!) This was my nans older brother (i believe he was born and died before she was born) None of the family were ALLOWED to talk about it or him, so unfortunately we dont even know his name!! We believe it may have been Robert but not sure on this. We also believe he may have been born abt 1923 and died abt 1925 but again are not 100%.
Is there anyway of finding out his name etc anywhere, would there have been newspaper articles etc?

Thank you ever so much Reggie!! God it has taken so long to find anything on her! It was almost like she didnt exist!!

So on the census she is actually nine not 19yrs, thats probably why we had problems finding her!!

That census states she was born Brighton!! Which has confused me! I thought she was born Herts, the closest match birth record says Lancs and now census says Brighton, any suggestions?
