I am about to try and trace my dads family who came from Scotland.
I have a few names but very little dates.
His father was a William Mather b.1913 Inverkeithing & mother Jane Rutherford b. Rosyth.
Grandfather William Mather b. Anstruther & Grandmother Elizabeth Sharp b. ?.
His other grandparents were Robert Rutherford and Elizabeth Wright b.Kelty? This is all l know.
Can someone please tell me what is the best way to search the Scotish records (l am with Ancestry), with very little to go on.

The only Scottish records on Ancestry are the transcribed versions of the censuses....

For anything else, you need to be with Scotlands people website.

You will be able to find his parents marrage on ScotlandsPeople, but not his birth record.

If you want that, you would have to apply direct to the GROS: http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/bdm.html
